Is Myocarditis an Independent Risk Factor for Post-Transplant Mortality in Pediatric Heart Transplant Recipients?
BACKGROUND Previous studies suggest that children with myocarditis who receive heart transplantation (HT) may be at higher risk of post-transplant mortality compared with children who are transplanted for idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. We hypothesized that these differences are because of more severe heart failure at HT in children with myocarditis. METHODS AND RESULTS We identified 221 c...

متن کاملTransfusion-Associated Babesiosis after Heart Transplant
We describe a 54-year-old spleen-intact man with transfusion-associated Babesia microti infection after a heart transplant. Adult respiratory distress syndrome developed in the patient, and he required mechanical ventilation. Our experiences with this patient suggest that babesiosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of transplant patients who have fever and hemolytic anemia.
متن کاملRecurrent myocarditis of unknown etiology.
A 42-year-old man presented with dyspnea and common cold-like symptoms. His electrocardiogram showed complete atrioventricular block and chest radiography revealed cardiomegaly and pulmonary congestion. He had a history of three recurrences of active myocarditis proven by endomyocardial biopsy over a 14-year period. Viral studies showed no evidence of recent infection, and no medications had be...

A 17-year-old Brazilian male presented with progressive dyspnea for 15 days, worsening in the last 24 hours, and was admitted in respiratory failure and cardiogenic shock, with multiple organ dysfunctions. Echocardiography showed a left ventricle ejection fraction of 11%, severe diffuse hypokinesia, and a systolic pulmonary artery pressure of 50mmHg, resulting in the need for hemodynamic suppor...
